On September 16, 2003, Cobb County residents voted to renew the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) for five more years. Tax collections began on January 1, 2004, and the first payment was received in March 2004. Total SPLOST 2 receipts in the amount of $151,996,313 received through June 2005 exceeded the projected revenues of $150,820,172 by $1,176,141 for a variance of .8%. The total collection fee to date retained by the State amounts to $1,528,105.
