Cobb County School District Identity Guidelines

The Cobb County School District Graphic Identity Program is designed to distinguish all official communications from the District, in compliance with Administrative Rule KDF.  The program is composed of a system of coordinated graphic elements, including the stylized ‘C’ icon and wordmark, and identities for the District’s academic programs such as Cobb edTV and the International Welcome Center. This logo system is recommended for all visual representations of the District—for signs, video productions, exhibit materials, vehicles, and the like, in addition to printed publications and Web sites. Exceptions to these guidelines and standards must be approved in advance by the Communications Office.

Primary Identity Marks

Specific graphic elements, colors, and typefaces have been chosen to give printed and online communications from the Cobb County School District a cohesive, consistent presentation. The official logo of the Cobb County School District is the stylized 'C' icon with the outline of Cobb County on its interior. It is used to identify all official communications from the district. The icon is also paired with text in several approved wordmarks.

Guidelines
a. Guidelines governing the use of District logos are as follows:
            (1) The District logos are designed to be used as one unit, not as separate
                 letter forms or elements.
            (2) The symbols of the logo system should not be modified or altered in
                 any way.
            (3) The proportions of the graphic elements should remain unaltered.
            (4) The identity marks must be clearly legible at all times.
            (5) The identity marks must be reproduced from official artwork.

b. District Divisions and Departments seeking to create unique identities for
programs or initiatives must coordinate creative efforts and receive
approval for the final concept from the District’s Communications Office.

Colors and Typefaces

Colors
Color and typography are an important part of the Cobb County School District’s identity program. The District’s officlal color is maroon (PMS® 201).
Black and creme yellow (PMS® 1205) are appropriate support colors that compliment the maroon.

Guidelines
-
Use the correct Pantone Matching System® colors for maroon (PMS® 201), black or creme yellow (PMS® 1205). Another shade of red or maroon should not be used as a substitute for PMS 201.

- In four-color print jobs, PMS® 201 can be simulated by using CMYK formula: 25% cyan, 100% magenta, 100% yellow, and 26% black.

- In two-color printing, the use of black ink and PMS® 201 allows the exact maroon red in the logo and a highlight color throughout the publication. Black may be used for text and photo color.

- In cases where colors other than maroon and black are used, a monochrome logo should be printed in the darkest color.

- To approximate the official PMS® 201 maroon in electronic communications (Web sites, e-mail), use hexadecimal code #800000.

Web Fonts and Colors
Verdana, Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif is the recommended font setting for HTML text in Web pages, and is used throughout this site. Similar defaults found in your Web editor are also acceptable.

Graphic elements such as headers and buttons can be created using the Korinna Bold ITC, Warnock Pro, and Gill Sans fonts. These should be used when displaying type as graphic elements only; you should not use them for HTML text.

To approximate the official PMS® 201 maroon on the web, use hexadecimal code #800000.

Typography (Fonts)
The Communications Office uses Korinna Bold ITC, the Warnock Pro family, and the Gill Sans family of fonts in most of its materials.
