Overview

Daniell Middle School offers a support class for all sixth and seventh graders called Academic Habits.  Students take this class everyday in addition to their four content classes and their two connections classes.  The purpose of this class is to offer enrichment, remediation, and a preview of upcoming content to students in the areas of math, language arts, science, and social studies. Every week students in Academic Habits go to a computer lab to work on online resources such as USA Test Prep or Study Island to reinforce the material in that subject area that they will need to know for the CRCT.

Each quarter the students’ Academic Habits class changes so that by the end of the year, students have taken an Academic Habits class in all four content areas.

Math, English Language Arts, Social Studies

The Math, Language Arts, and Social Studies Academic Habits teachers work closely with the 6th and 7th grade core content teachers to identify students’ strengths and weaknesses for the units they are studying in the core classes.  Academic Habits teachers then reinforce those concepts and skills in their classes.

Science

The Science Academic Habits teacher also works closely with the core science teachers, but also analyzes the previous year’s CRCT data.  This class will support students not only in current science content, but also in domains of the curriculum where past students have typically scored lower on the CRCT.  Regardless of the quarter that the student has Science Academic Habits, he or she will benefit from the exposure to the content of the CRCT.
