Menu Planning
Cobb County Food and Nutrition's registered dietitians plan menus for our students. Menus provide well-balanced meals which conform to the United States Department of agriculture's guidelines for school meals. See the Nutrition Requirements section of our web page for the USDA's specific nutrient requirements.
It is important that not only are meals nutritious but that the meals appeal to students. Each year Cobb County Schools sponsor a New Product Preview where vendors bring their products for consideration for the next school year's menus. Vendors are encouraged to bring products which offer special nutritional benefits such as low fat, whole grain or low sugar. Students and parents have the opportunity too taste new products and vote on their opinion of the products. Results of the New Products Preview are evaluated as a part of the next year's menu plans. This year the New Product Preview is on February 24, 2009 at the Cobb Civic Center.
Menus are planned in a two week cycle. Within the menu cycles are options to allow for some variety based on season, student preferences and product availability. There are also special menus for some holiday seasons such as Thanksgiving.
