Guidelines
Student Attendance for Performance
Students are permitted to participate in after school rehearsals, performances,
and activities ONLY if they have been in attendance at least one-half of the
school day. Exceptions must be approved by the school principal.
Extra-curricular activities must not interfere with the regular school day.
Exceptions must have administrative approval.
Students who are not making satisfactory progress in their classes may be
prohibited from leaving class early or missing class for an activity or field
trip. The music teacher should monitor student academic progress and encourage
all students participating in performance activities to give proper emphasis to
scholastic achievement.
Performance Uniform Guidelines
High School Uniforms
Most high school ensembles wear a uniform. The rental
fee and/or purchase price is not a determinate of enrollment in the performance
class and every student must be given an opportunity to participate.Maintenance fees for high school uniforms are not to
exceed $50.00. You can not justify a fee which exceeds the cost of the uniform
over a four year period. These fees should be identified in a separate uniform
maintenance account.
All uniforms donated or purchased by booster clubs,
other organizations, or individuals automatically become property of the Cobb
County School District.
Middle School Uniforms
If worn, middle school music ensembles uniforms must
consist of items of apparel bought by the students which may be worn elsewhere.
An amount not to exceed $20.00 per uniform may be spent for a distinctive item,
such as a sash, which might not be worn elsewhere.
Private Lessons
Individual instruction should be given to each
band/orchestra student to ensure progress. This is difficult in large classes
and performing groups, but is essential. Private lessons, from a specialist on
the instrument or in voice, are encouraged, but can not be required.
Music teachers may not teach their own students for remuneration. Summer
instruction is permissible. Booster clubs may run private lessons as a
fundraiser and use the school facility if approved by their principal and
central administration.
Broadcasting
Cobb County regulations state: The building
administrator shall have the authority to determine what school event may or may
not be broadcast on television. Written approval must be obtained from the
building administrator for profit or non-profit broadcasting of any event on the
school campus.
Please be aware that the signing of agreements obligating a local school to
become responsible for performing specific duties and holding harmless any
entity form any liability, places you and the school system in a very precarious
situation.
Sponsors should not sign any agreement or contract without the legal advise of
the school system.
