Responsibilities of Music Supervisor
(General/Choral and Band/Orchestral)
1. Management of curriculum development and implementation:
• General music K-8
• Band 6 – 12
• Music theory 9 – 12
• Choral music 3 – 12
• Orchestral music 6 – 12
• Music appreciation 9 – 12
• Piano keyboard and Guitar 6 – 12
2. Coordination of the selection of textbooks,
supplemental materials and equipment
3. Coordination, management, and presentation of teacher
support activities:
• In-Service programs
• Teacher on-line handbook
• Mentor teacher program
• Monthly music activities calendar
• Staff development opportunities
• Peer observations
• Communication concerning professional opportunities
• Music Resource Center
4. Presentation of information regarding the content and
activities of the music curriculum to a
variety of audiences: teachers, local administrators, central office
administrators, students,
parents, community groups, other school systems, State Department of Education,
professional music and education organizations, music industry
5. Projection of budget needs and management of specific
allocations
6. Coordination of special programs:
• Marching Band Exhibition
• District Choral/Band/Orchestra Festivals
• Governors Honors Program Auditions
• District Elementary and Middle Honor Chorus/Band/ Orchestra
• Kaleidoscope
7. Cooperation with other members of the curriculum and
instruction division to insure a balanced and coordinated instructional program
8. Participate in on-site visitations:
• Classroom lessons and presentations
• PTA programs
• In school and away from school performances
• Special functions and activities
9. Participation in teacher assessment (formal and
informal)
10. Serving as leader, mentor, interpreter, manager,
teacher, role model, visionary |
