Risk Management
1. Bus transportation should be provided for students who are attending required events. When a small group of students is attending an event, they may be
transported by car if driven by the teacher, another faculty member, or by a
parent. If private automobile transportation is to be used, all drivers must
have adequate liability insurance to cover that specific trip.
2. There are many occasions where parents/citizens volunteer to drive their own
vehicles on school system business. This use many times is to transport students
to events and activities. The parent/citizen is not provided fleet liability
coverage should they be transporting students or while doing any school
business.
3. Students using their own vehicles on school system business are not covered
by the school system fleet liability insurance. There is also no coverage should
they be going from one school to another to attend a class, or students
transporting other students.
4. Many employees use their own vehicles on school system business. This
includes employees transporting students. The employee’s own auto policy would
be primary and the school system’s policy would provide additional coverage
should the employee’s policy limits be exhausted.
Parent/Volunteer driving = NO COVERAGE
Employee driving = “IN EXCESS” ONLY COVERAGE
