Supervision of Students

Students must be supervised at all times while in our charge. This includes rehearsals, performances, and trips which may be held before or after school or in the evening, as well as those times when students may be “hanging around” in your classroom before or after school. Supervision of students is one of the most important responsibilities of our work since failure to meet this responsibility may possibly involve injury to students, damage to equipment, and personal liability.

Personal safety is of primary importance. If an accident occurs in your classroom, send a reliable student for help. Be sure to notify your local school office as quickly as possible.

Special attention should be given to the following items:

1. At the end of an evening rehearsal or performance, do not leave the site until all students have been picked up by their parents.

2. When taking bus trips, be sure to have a method for taking roll before the bus departs, after every stop, and before departure on the return trip. BE VERY CERTAIN THAT ALL STUDENTS HAVE BEEN ACCOUNTED FOR AT ALL TIMES.

3. After a performance away from school, permit students to ride home with parents (not friends) ONLY if they bring a signed note form home or if their parents request it in person at the performance.

4. Bus transportation should be provided for students who are attending required events.

5. For further information regarding transportation and liability, see the Risk Management section of this web-site.
