Supplemental Pay
Cobb County salary supplements are justified only on the
basis of extended school day or extended school year. The choral teacher
receiving a supplement is expected to spend a minimum average of 3 ½ hours per
week beyond the hours required of a non-supplemented teacher in instructional
activities (including performances) with students or in county-wide meetings and
events. Middle school band and orchestra directors are required to spend a
minimum of 7 ½ hours per week outside the school day at school with students or
in county-wide meetings and events. High school directors are required to begin
rehearsals at least one week prior to pre-planning and to spend the necessary
time outside of school hours for the appropriate individual, ensemble, and full
band preparations in addition to the weekly performance during football season.
Most music directors feel they need to exceed the minimum in order to
sufficiently complete the job.
