CCSD Student Teacher Request Process
In the past, we have worked with colleges and universities to place student teachers. In accomplishing this process, the colleges/universities have sent us specific requests for certain schools and we have attempted to meet their request.
To expedite the process and to avoid sending requests to schools that either do not have teachers to accommodate student teachers or do not want student teachers, we are requesting that any teachers who are interested in working with student teachers notify us in advance – before placements of student teachers are made.
The Process:
All teachers who work with student teachers should have at least three years experience (in or outside of Cobb) and hold a valid GA professional teaching certificate in the field in which they teach.
Qualified teachers should go to PASS to complete the Student Teacher Request Form.
Principals will refer their teachers who are interested in working with a stu-dent teacher to the Student Teacher section of the PA.S.S. website.
Teachers will complete the Student Teacher Request Form.
The Student Teacher Request Form is received by HR. An email will be sent to the principal to confirm the request from the teacher.
The teachers approved will be maintained in a pool for placement with student teachers as they are received from colleges.
As the requests are received from colleges, an email will be sent to the teacher, principal in-forming them of the student teacher they have been assigned.
After all placements are completed, a spreadsheet will be sent to each principal detailing with whom, from which college student teachers have been placed in their school.
Please keep in mind that in some instances, not all teachers who request a student teacher will receive one due to subject area, limited number of requests received, etc.
FYI ! Student Teacher also refers to Counseling Interns, Speech Language Pathology Interns, Media Specialist Interns.
Please also keep in mind that if a student is requesting an observation, TOSS, pre-practicum or anything that is less that 60 hours in one semester, it should be approved at the local level by the school principal. (It will not fall under this new student teacher process.)
Any other questions should be forwarded to Natalie Cheshire, Human Resources (770) 426-3534 or email natalie.cheshire@cobbk12.org.
FAQ's: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I have worked with Kennesaw State for years hosting student teachers and want to work with a specific student, can I do that?
Yes, please indicate on the CCSD Student Teacher Request Form what the student’s name is and we will be sure to place them with you (upon your schools’ administration approval).
I have spoken to a professor at Georgia State who would like me to host a student teacher.
Please indicate on the form the name of the college/university and/or program and we will be sure to place them with you (upon your schools’ administration approval).
I am a current employee trying to receive credit for my student teaching while working in my classroom of the same subject.
You do not have to complete the CCSD Student Teacher Request Form. When the request is received from your college/university an email will be sent to you and your principal advising you of your approval.
I am an administrator/department head and have three people who can work with student teachers, can I just reply with my name asking for three students?
No, we will need the names of each teacher and their grade/subject to inform the college/university. As the administrator/department head, you can complete the CCSD Student Teacher Request Form for each teacher, they do not have to do it themselves.
I already told Kennesaw State I would take a student teacher next semester, do I need to tell you?
Yes, since our process is changing, placements will be made from the requests received on the CCSD Student Teacher Request Form, not from the requests received from Kennesaw State.
When should I complete the request that I’d like a student teacher?
We request that you let us know asap. Placements of student teachers for the Fall 2008 semester begins in April and continues until the end of the school year.
When will I hear that I get a student teacher?
Notifications will begin around spring break in April – depending on when we receive requests from the colleges/universities. When all student teacher placements are completed and if you will not receive a student teacher, you will be notified. You could; however, still receive a student teacher up until the end of the school year, if we receive late requests or changes.
Principal: Will I get notified of which student teachers are placed in my school?
Yes, you will be copied on each email sent to confirm which student teacher(s) will be placed with your teacher(s). You will also receive a spreadsheet for your entire school specifying name, college, subject, teacher assigned and dates in your school, before the end of the school year.
Principal: We have AYP goals to meet and would not like student teachers this semester, how do I notify you of that?
Since you are receiving this information to pass along to your faculty, you are not obligated to share it with them. All teachers should request your approval prior to completing the CCSD Student Teacher Request Form; thus alerting you, should someone request a student teacher and not be aware of your plans for the year.
