PLU options for Math and Writing Teacher Elluminate Sessions
1. Visit this link for GaDOE information on writing PLU’s
http://www.gadoe.org/tss_school_prolearning.aspx?PageReq=TSSSchoolImpPLCredits
2. Mathematics PLU’s could be provided for teachers who participate in each monthly session. Since there are 4 sessions occurring after contract hours (4:00 pm), schools might consider structuring teacher groups to maximize collegial dialogue during the Elluminate sessions. Additionally, schools might consider adding in one additional 60-90 minute slot per month for teachers to discuss learning and share implementation successes and challenges. A PLU course written for 2.5 hrs. per month (January – April 2008) would equate to 1 PLU credit.
3.
Writing PLU’s could be provided in conjunction with an existing
professional learning opportunity already in place. Since there are only two
months worth of Elluminate sessions by grade bands, additional professional
learning opportunities would need to be in place to meet the 10 hr criteria.
This would be an excellent opportunity for schools to support vertical dialogue
about writing and grammar instruction. Additionally, analyzing student work and
using the writing rubrics would support teacher professional learning across
grade levels.
