Thank you for your interest in teaching with Cobb’s eHigh
School (eHS). Cobb's eHigh School offers high quality Internet delivered
online high school courses for students in Cobb County and throughout
the state. eHigh School delivers courses identical in content to
those offered in traditional classrooms and uses interactive activities
and multi-media to engage students. As in face-to-face classes,
online classes include a teacher, lessons, homework, class discussions,
and tests. The main difference is that the activities occur over
the Internet at a time that is convenient for students. Cobb’s
eHigh School offers the hallmarks of truly effective traditional
education programs – quality teachers, quality curriculum,
and frequent student-teacher interaction. All courses are developed
and taught by Cobb County School District (CCSD) teachers and meet
national, state and CCSD curriculum standards.
Teachers interested in online learning must complete an
application with the CCSD and successfully complete the
staff development course(s). When a vacancy or opening occurs, an
eHigh School administrator will select teachers from among the qualified
applicants. Completion of the application process and staff development
course does not guarantee the applicant an eHS teaching position.
Certification and Experience
eHigh School teachers must have current Georgia certification at
the appropriate level and content area and have experience teaching
in that area for at least two years in the CCSD. Advanced Placement
(AP) faculty must have previous experience teaching an AP course
for at least two years.
Training
Training is required of all course developers and online instructors
in the pedagogy of online course development, instruction, and in
the use of the online software platform. The CCSD will provide all
training for teachers in developing and teaching online courses..
Work Schedule and Equipment
eHS teachers and course developers work off contract in any place
with Internet access. Teachers working from home will require a
multi-media computer and access to the Internet. It is the responsibility
of the eHigh School teacher to have reliable technology equipment
and Internet access.
Technology Skills Needed
An eHigh School teacher or course developer should be comfortable
with technology and the methods needed to implement an online course.
Prospective teachers should review the
Self-Assessment
for Online Teaching to see what technology skills are needed
for successful online teaching.
Course Development
Course developers should be familiar with state and district standards
in their respective curriculum areas. They should be experienced
in real world applications of their subject matter and have a solid
grasp of the concepts being taught. Course developers should also
be familiar with adopted core curriculum materials such as textbooks,
software, and materials/resources.
Ownership of eHigh School Courses
Under copyright law, any material prepared by an employee within
the scope of his or her employment is called a "work made for
hire." For Cobb County School district employees this means
that any materials created within the scope of employment with the
Cobb County School District are "works for hire" and belong
to the District, unless you agree otherwise in a signed document.
All online courses developed for the CCSD belong to the District.
All eHigh School teachers will be required to sign a document acknowledging
the above statement.
eLearning Attitudes
eHigh School teachers and course developers must accept the value
of online instruction as equal to the traditional model. If you
feel that the only way the learning process can take place is through
the traditional classroom model, then you are probably not right
for online instruction or course development. Remember that you
cannot duplicate the traditional classroom in an online environment.
The successful online instructor must be able to be a facilitator
of learning by providing opportunities for student engagement using
student-centered activities
