School Carpool Expectations & Safety Concerns
July 26, 2014

Carpool Safety – Guidelines and Expectations!

We have observed several dangerous situations during morning drop off in recent weeks. I am attaching our expectations for carpool along with a letter that I recently received from a concerned parent. The parent observations are very alarming and I wanted to share the letter with our community. I ask that for the safety of “OUR” students that you adhere to the attached guidelines and expectations for morning carpool. These carpool expectations were developed when the new building was built and have remained in place with reminders each year. As we will begin to be more vigilant in monitoring carpool, we ask that you be respectful to our staff members who are working for the safety of our students. Please avoid entering the parking area unless you have a reason to enter the building other than dropping off children.

News from Public Safety
August 28, 2013

Please read the information
From the Department of Public Safety:

This email serves as a reminder of the Fire Lane ordinance. Please remember to convey to parents, guests and staff that the following instructions/requirements must be adhered to in order to prevent from being cited by the Office of the Fire Marshall or the Cobb County Police Department.

Per the Fire Marshall's Office, no one is allowed to park in a Fire Lane, whether there is a driver in the vehicle or not, at any time other than the following:

-30 minutes prior to the end of the school day and 30 minutes after the end of the school day (this does not include the After School Program nor any other activity at the school) -passengers actively loading or unloading during the day (this would cover students unloading in the morning at the beginning of the school day)

The focus of this email is to reemphasize that the only time a vehicle would be allowed in a Fire Lane would be to actively drop-off and/or pick-up a student when there is no waiting. Other times, such as After School Program or after school activities would not be included.

Should you have questions or concerns, please contact the Department of Public Safety (678) 594-8620.

Read the form for more information.

Web Broadcast Announcement
September 12, 2011

Dear Parents/Guardians:

On September 21, 2011 from 3:00PM-4:00PM, State Superintendent of Education, John D. Barge, along with staff in the GA Department of Education Curriculum and Instruction division, will host a web-delivered broadcast through Georgia Public Broadcasting to introduce to all stakeholders the upcoming Common Core Georgia Performance Standards (CCGPS).

To provide you with a brief history, the state of Georgia, along with 47 other states, has adopted a new set of standards that are geared towards unifying the standards that are used from state to state and enabling students to be college & 21st century workplace and career ready upon graduating from high school.

If you are unable to view the initial broadcast, it will air again from 4:00PM-5:00PM, and then an archived version will appear the following day. Three days later, a closed-caption version of the broadcast will air through the same site. The Web link for the initial broadcast and the archived sessions will be:

http://www.gpb.org/education/common-core

We hope that all stakeholders will find an opportunity to view this broadcast and learn about the future of education, not only in Georgia, but across the United States. Your participation in viewing this broadcast will provide your student with the greatest level of support.
