Mission:

• To facilitate home/school communications
• To promote refugee/immigrant parental involvement in every school
• To promote literacy and academic achievement through parental involvement in the child's education
• To encourage parental leadership in the schools and community
• To facilitate family self-sufficiency
• To promote cultural diversity understanding among school staff members

Description:

Eight facilitators manage a network of support services specific to the needs of refugee/immigrant/migrant families and schools. Services will:

• provide interpreting and translation services of school issues in collaboration with the Georgia Mutual Assistance Association Consortium and TransAct Online Document Library
• provide initial orientation for refugee/immigrant families to introduce them to practical school information
• organize multi-lingual workshops on various topics of interest for schools, parents, and community
• offer cultural diversity presentations for parents and school staff members

Translation/Interpretation Services:

• Individual Education Plans (for Special Education students)
• Translation of district newsletter
• School to Home Communication Documents
• Disciplinary/suspension hearings
• Student Support Team meetings at local schools
• Parent-teacher conferences
• Transcript translations
