Promotion, Placement, and Retainention Information

For students in grades 6-8, Cobb County School District promotion and retention policy indicates that in order to earn promotion to the next grade level, the student must meet all of the following criteria:

          (1) Pass math, English/language arts and one additional core subject for the year or demonstrate minimum proficiency on the appropriate state-adopted assessment in math, English/language arts and one additional core subject.

          (2) Earn a combined overall passing average for all scheduled courses for the year; and

          (3) Demonstrate an appropriate level of reading comprehension as measured by Lexile score.

Students who were ‘promoted,’ earned promotion by meeting all of criteria set forth in the county’s policy (detailed above).  Students who were ‘placed’ did not earn promotion by meeting all of the criteria and were moved into the next grade level.  Students who were ‘retained’ also did not earn promotion by meeting all of the criteria but were not moved into the next grade level and will repeat their previous grade level.

Please read Cobb County School District’s complete promotion and retention policy online at

Garrett Students Perform at the Governor's Mansion

The Garrett Middle School Jazz Orchestra was invited to perform at the Governor's Mansion during this past winter break. They performed musical selections for guests who were touring the mansion. Our students had the opportunity to tour the mansion as well and spend time with the First Lady, Mrs. Sandra Deal.

ParentVue Login Credentials

Parents who are in need of ParentVue login credentials may come to the school and receive the document. Please be sure to bring identification.  These are available in the main office during the school day. If you have any questions, please contact John Chandler via email at john.chandler@cobbk12.org.

Transportation Change Requests

In order to accommodate transportation changes, we are asking parents to fax or email the request with a copy of the guardian's ID. Transportation changes will not be received via phone call. All requests will have to be submitted in person, fax or email with the guardian's ID attached and requested transportation change. This will ensure that all of our students are safe.

CCRPI from the GaDOE

When the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) announced the College & Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) scores on December 8, district administrators noticed that specific information for calculating a portion of the score was not included in the released score for each middle school. Therefore, the middle school CCRPI scores showed an inaccurate drop across the district. The issue was immediately addressed on December 9 by the district with the GaDOE Accountability and Assessment Department and is currently being resolved.

Once the new data is incorporated into the recalculation, correct scores for CCSD middle schools will be released and published by the GaDOE at the end of January. Based on internal preliminary calculations by district administrators, the results show that the CCRPI score at every middle school, as well as the overall district score, will increase. The corrected scores will be issued by the State within the next 45 days.
