Cobb County School District Awards & Honors

●  Tritt Elementary School named 2006 Georgia School of Excellence for Congressional District 6. One of only 20 schools statewide to receive the honor, the program distinguishes schools who have displayed the highest levels and greatest gains in student achievement.

●  2005 Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (15th consecutive award for the District)

●  2005 Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Association of School Business Officials (22nd award for the District)

●  2005 Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (25th award for the District)

●  2005 & 2006 Gold Awards of Excellence – Georgia School Public Relations Association Publications, Photography and Electronic Media Awards

●  27 Cobb schools won 2005 Single Statewide Accountability System awards from the Governor's Office and the Georgia Department of Education. These awards stem from Georgia's statewide efforts to go beyond the requirements of "No Child Left Behind" by pursuing a higher standard of excellence in student achievement. Schools are recognized for having the Greatest Gains in percentage of students meeting or exceeding standards, and for having 95 percent or more students reaching these marks.

In the "Greatest Gains" category, Daniell Middle School received the Gold award for progress in student achievement.

26 schools from all three levels were included on the SSAS "Highest Percentage" award list. These include Addison, Bullard, Davis, Due West, East Side, Ford, Garrison Mill, Kemp, Mt. Bethel, Mountain View, Murdock, Rocky Mount, Shallowford Falls, Sope Creek, Still, Timber Ridge, Tritt and Vaughan Elementary Schools; Dickerson, Dodgen, Hightower Trail and Mabry Middle Schools; and Harrison, Lassiter, and Pope High Schools.

●  The AVID Center granted national certification to Griffin and Lindley middle schools and Campbell, Kell, North Cobb, Osborne, South Cobb and Sprayberry high schools in Winter 2006. AVID (which stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a program that encourages 5th through 12th graders to enroll in advanced content courses, better preparing them for higher education. While students are being challenged, they are also supported by an academic elective course that provides further guidance from an AVID-certified educator. The goal is to open more doors to college for more Cobb students.

●  Wheeler High School’s media program was named 2005 Exemplary High School Library Media Program by the Georgia Department of Education. The state bestows this title on one media center at each academic level, recognizing progressive efforts in delivery of media services to students and faculty.

●  2005 Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award, National Purchasing Institute and the National Association of Educational Buyers

●  2004-2005 Super System for Quality Schools, from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools

●  Donna Duke of Campbell High School was named 2004 K-12 Health Educator of the Year by the Georgia Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

●  2004 District Accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools

●  2004 Pareto Award of Excellence in Public Procurement, from the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing
