Griffin School
Dress Code

 Note of Caution to Students:
If you think you might get in trouble for wearing an item,
then do NOT wear it!

In keeping with Griffin’s desire to promote student self-esteem and self-respect, students are to come to school dressed in appropriate, neat, clean outfits that are not disruptive, distracting, or in violation of the dress code.  All students are encouraged to observe a standard of grooming and dress consistent with the level of formality of the school situation.

Students will be required to adhere to the following dress code:

  • Pants must fit above the hips with no undergarments visible.

  • Pants with holes above the knee are prohibited, unless there are tights, leggings, or other garments underneath which hinders skin from being seen.

  • Leggings/Jeggings can only be worn with a top that completely covers their buttocks.

  • Knee length shorts are permitted.

  • Necklines of shirts/blouses/jerseys may not be low cut, and under no circumstances is the neckline to be cut low enough to be revealing.

  • Skirt/dress/shorts length must come no higher than 3 inches above the knee.  Slits in skirts must be no higher than 3 inches above the knee.

  • Shirts/blouses/jerseys must not be see-through or reveal the midriff.

  • Appropriate shoes must be worn at all times. Flip flops, slides, and bedroom shoes are prohibited.

Students who are out of dress code have several options:

1. Call a parent to bring an appropriate clothing item(s).

2. Or if parents cannot bring a change of clothing, then student will stay in ISS for the rest of that school day.

Students who refuse to comply with either option
may be placed in In-School Suspension (ISS) for the day.

Prohibited Items (inclusive of, but not limited to the following)

  • Saggy pants.  No undergarments may show at any time.

  • Caps, hats, bandannas, du-rags or other head covering.

  • Clothing or ornaments displaying or advertising substances and/or activities illegal for minors.

  • Clothing or ornaments that have suggestive phrases, designs, markings, or profanities.

  • Grills or other mouth ornamentations.

  • Tank tops/halter tops, strapless garments, and low-cut or sleeveless athletic shirts.

  • Clothing which, in the judgment of the school, calls undue attention to an individual or interferes with the planned educational program may not be worn at school.

 Griffin Reserves the Right

The school reserves the right to make judgments in individual situations.  Students and parents are asked to cooperate with the school.  Students who violate the policy will be required to change clothes before being permitted to return to class.  Those who will not or cannot correct their dress will be isolated for the day.
Repeat offenders will be subject to disciplinary action.

Wildcat Parents! The Griffin PTSA and Foundation are wonderful organizations, and we would love to have you be a part of the great events they sponsor that help our students achieve success. There are numerous volunteer opportunities that work around your schedule. Our students feel a sense of school pride when parents are involved at Griffin. Your contribution makes all the difference in building a strong community for our students at Griffin. It is through our school community that students learn to be contributing community members themselves! Data shows that a parent's involvement at their child's school increases academic achievement and a child's sense of belonging at school.
