New Teacher Support Programs

Purpose:

The purpose of the New Teacher Support Program is to improve student academic achievement and to reduce new teacher attrition. To accomplish this purpose, it is the goal to provide training and support to beginning, lateral entry and experienced teachers new to our school district to ensure teacher quality, maximize student learning and retention within Cobb County School District.

Components of the CCSD Induction Program

• Orientation – District and local school level
information vital to the start of the school year


• Workshops and Training - Staff development designed specifically to address needs of beginning teachers

o Beginning Teachers Summer Institute—one-week workshop for elementary, middle and high schools
o Cobb-Kennesaw State University Partnership Monthly Workshops
o Local-school professional development
o Year-long staff development classes for beginning teachers
o Peer Support/Study Groups for beginning teachers
o Local-school classes for beginning teachers
o Support/training from school’s Instructional Lead Teacher – who supports teachers in classrooms by collaborating and modeling effective teaching and learning.

• Mentoring – Provides support, assistance, and guidance for successful teaching focused on increasing student achievement

o Mentor teachers trained in year-long program approved by Professional Standards Commission to obtain Teacher Support Specialist (TSS) certification
o Year-long mentor working with beginning teacher
o Classroom observations with feedback between mentor and protégé

New Teacher Relocation Services

Purpose:

To underscore our commitment to educators, the Cobb County School District and area businesses offers relocation services to welcome and assist new educators with their move to Cobb County.
