The Lexile Framework for Reading is a system for measuring 1) a student's reading ability and 2) the reading level of a book or other text. These measurements help students choose reading materials that are written on a level that is appropriate for their reading ability. (Students receive the maximum benefit and enjoyment from reading materials that are on or slightly above their current reading level.)
The Georgia Department of Education has adopted the Lexile Framework for Reading, and students receive a report of their Lexile reading level as part of their CRCT and GHSGT score reports.
Cobb's Destiny library catalog includes Lexile ratings for almost all items for which a rating is available, and the Destiny search features allow students to easily search for books in a chosen range of Lexile levels. However, many books have not yet measured, so Destiny users should be aware that searching for books within a specific Lexile range will eliminate from the search results many books that may be appropriate for the reader. (Many databases in Cobb Virtual Library also allow students to locate materials by Lexile level.)
Visit the Georgia Standards Lexile page for more information on the Lexile Framework and its implementation in Georgia.
