Destiny - New District Equipment Records
Check out the information on adding copy information to District equipment records.  There are 5 new items on the list of District records for equipment.  If you circulate any of these items in your media center, please add your school's copy information to the appropriate District record by the deadline.  Don't forget to let Janice and Susy know if a record needs to be created for a different brand or if you have questions.
First Destiny Workshop for 2009-10 - See you there!
Check the session rosters to see your scheduled date and time.  All workshops are at Kemp Elementary School in the district training lab.  There are still a few open sessions.  If you haven't signed up, it's not too late.  Please join us!
Destiny at Home
CCSD Tech Services is working with Follett to resolve a couple of things that are happening when patrons try to login to Destiny from home.  If patrons are receiving a security certificate error message or if they can't login to Destiny from Destiny Quest, these problems are being addressed and will hopefully be resolved soon.
First Destiny Workshop for 2009-10 - Time to sign up!
Please check out the dates and times for the first Destiny Workshop for this school year.  Make a selection and email Beverly Myers with your first and second choice.  Your name will appear on the session roster when you have been assigned a session.

Library Media Committee Verification
It's time to form your school library media committee for this year!  Please complete the Library Media Committee Verification form and email it to Beverly Myers before September 18th.
Patron Empowerment
Great job promoting these new features!   They are available for students and faculty who create an account in Destiny!
  • My Info tab - allows them to view and renew check-outs
  • Create Resource Lists
  • Rate a Title
  • Write a Review for a Title
  • Recommend a Title to other patrons who have a Destiny account
  • Submit a Title to the Wish List for media specialist to consider for purchase
  • Customize Destiny Quest view
  • Place an item on Hold (this feature is only available for Faculty at this time)
Reminder:
It has been recommended to encourage students to use their patron id as their username when creating their account.
Destiny Checklist
At the preplanning inservice, a beginning-of-the-year Destiny Checklist was provided as a reminder of things to complete in August. By completing the activities and reports on the checklist, it ensures that Destiny is set up correctly for your school.  Eliminate potential problems by completing the checklist today.  Remember that this list does not need to be sent to the LME Department.
Destiny Patron Empowerment
All is clear for your faculty and students to create accounts in Destiny.  Please plan for the promotion of these exciting features that are now available for your patrons!  As they begin to experience the value of the patron empowerment capabilities, other suggestions, questions, or concerns may surface.  Media specialists will have an opportunity for discussion at the first Destiny Workshop.  Enjoy!
Destiny Patron Data Still a Work In-Progress
There are still a few "kinks" with the NEW patron data process for Destiny, but everything will soon be working as planned.  If there is a problem with a patron, remember that SchoolMax is the main source of information for Destiny patron data.  Therefore, verifying the information in SchoolMax is the first step.  When SchoolMax information is correct, if the patron is still not appearing correctly in Destiny, a Service Request should be entered.  Enter all patron information on a Service Request so it can be handled effectively (name, Badge ID, eNumber, birthdate, position, etc.)  If patrons fill out one of the Destiny Patron Data Forms (copies available in the Destiny section of the LME website), you will have all of the information needed to enter a complete Request.  Continue to work on the Destiny Checklist and review the reports regarding staff and students.  For awhile, there will be students moving from one school to another (partly due to new "School Choice" rules) and there will be homeroom changes.
Final Allotments Posted
Library media materials allotments have been finalized and loaded in the financial portal. Library media specialists should check their GroupWise email for information about this and other important changes regarding budgets and purchasing.
Changes to Comcast Channel Availability
Comcast Communications is making significant reductions to the selection of channels that will be available to the Cobb schools they service.  If Comcast is the cable provider for your school, click the link above to read more about this will impact your school.
Revised PAI for Library Media Specialists
The Performance Assessment Instrument for Library Media Specialists was revised during the summer.  Remember to meet with your principal to review the changes.
Summer Work Hours

Beginning June 1 and ending July 24, the CCSD Administrative Offices, including the Library Media Education Department, will be closed on Friday.  Assistance will be available during normal business hours Monday through Thursday.
