About Our School
The Lindley Sixth Grade Academy was established as a “school-within-a-school” during the 2007-2008 school year, becoming the first middle school in Cobb County School District to adopt the concept. Lindley Middle School's populous of 1,400 students was divided into two smaller learning communities, providing the opportunity for a more supportive instructional environment. The academy presents a great opportunity to meet the needs of our students by supporting their physical, emotional, social, and cognitive changes.
The academy began operation in an independent facility during the 2008-2009 school year. The new location is three miles from Lindley Middle School, granted with the official name LINDLEY SIXTH GRADE ACADEMY AT THE BARNES CENTER. Having a separate building creates a smaller learning community, which will benefit our students academically.
The Barnes Center is the former home of Central Alternative School and is also the original location of Lindley Middle School, before it moved to its current site on Veterans Memorial Highway in Mableton, Georgia. The academy concept was created under a restructuring plan for Lindley Middle School as a strategy to increase student achievement.
