Character Education at LMMS

Character Education is reflected in all aspects of school life and school health. Our future world depends on the character of our youth and on their contribution to it. The Character Education (CE) programs that are delivered at LMMS are a deliberate pro-active attempt to foster the development of good character in LMMS students.  The CE program is effective in improving student outcomes related to positive character development, reducing school behavior referrals, and in improving academic performance.

The CE program is implemented by the entire faculty throughout the year. Its purpose is to integrate good character traits into the school environment as well as the community. The schools, the parents and the communities support efforts to develop good character in our children by identifying a list of character words and definitions deemed important. These character traits are a daily focus for students and teachers and are embedded into the curriculum.

The character values are taught at Lost Mountain through the use of one of the 8 character words each month.

Kindness, Honesty, Integrity, Trustworthiness, Respect, Moral Courage, Loyalty and Responsibility

Character Corner:

Bi-monthly character education meetings are held to highlight the word of the month. Students participate in class discussions/activities that promote the awareness of what each word should look, and feel like within our school environment.

Soda Socials:

Each month students who demonstrate the qualities that represent the word of the month are nominated by LMMS staff/faculty. They are awarded/recognized by enjoying time with peers who exemplify similar qualities, and show leadership within our building. We are so proud of our Lost Mountain students!
