Mission Statement of the Mableton School Counseling Program

The mission of the Mableton Elementary School Counseling Program is to creat a supportive learning environment that provides opoportunities for exploration and growth in the areas of Personal/Social, Academic, and Career Development assisting students in reaching their full potential as productive citizens in their school community and future lives.

Philosophy

We believe...

  • all students are unique and given a safe nurturing environment to grow to their highest potential.

  • all students have the right to a school counselor who assists students through group and individual support and collaborates with teachers and community organizations to provide and effective program.

  • all students have the right to be heard and treated with respect.

  • all students have the right to serves that support academic, career, and personal growth.

Goals

  • to be instrumental in opening the eharts and minds of students to an expanded vision of themselves which gives them the confidence adn skills to create a successful and productive life experience.

  • to assist students in developing life skills which bring success in the areas of academic, career, and personal/social growth.

  • to inspire students to strive to reach their potential by developing their own unique talents and abilities which they can in turn offer in service for a better world.

The School counseling Program is here to serve students and families in the following ways:

Classroom Guidance – The Counselor schedules guidance sessions with all grade levels. This is done in the classroom and is a part of the school curriculum. Topics of instruction include Self Knowledge, Interpersonal Relations, Conflict Resolution, Study Skills, Decision Making, Career Guidance… and more. Each lesson focuses on LIFE SKILLS that help children achieve skills now and later in life.

Individual Counseling – The Counselor is available to students on a one to one basis if needed. Students are allowed to schedule an appointment with the Counselor when problems arise. A teacher or parent may ask for the Counselor to talk to a child. Students realize that problems can be resolved if they are willing to take responsibility for their feelings and actions and move in a positive direction.

Group Counseling – Support groups where students can join with others who have similar problems are offered on a limited basis.

School Counselors are there for Parents too. Parents can speak with the counselor when students are having academic, emotional or social difficulties. I am here for you and want to be of service in any way to help insure your child’s success.
