Hurricane Katrina: Cobb County's Education Response

As evacuees of Hurricane Katrina make their way to metro Atlanta and Cobb County, we hope they will take comfort in knowing they are welcome in Cobb County schools.

Enrolling a child:
Enrolling a child is easy. With your child or children, please visit the appropriate grade level school closest to your location. Click here to find the elementary, middle and high schools.  The administrative staffs at each school will assist you with enrollment procedures. Children of all Hurricane Katrina evacuees will be accepted. Documentation is not required but will be helpful, including birth certificates, Social Security cards and immunization records. Please bring this information if available. To find out more about enrollment, click here

Relief efforts:
Many in the school district community have asked how they can assist with relief efforts. Local and national leaders continue to advise us to send money to the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, or other relief agency in order to provide assistance to the Hurricane Katrina victims.

There are many local agencies helping these victims. CCSD School Social Workers provide the attached list of contacts:

1. Sweetwater Valley CAMP is providing food and clothes Monday through Friday from 9am to 1pm and Saturdays 9am to noon. Their number is 770-819-0662. Donations of diapers, formula, baby food, clothes and non-perishable foods are appreciated. They are located at 6289 Veterans Memorial Highway, Building 12, Austell, GA 30168. www.svcamp.org

2. American Red Cross can help with shelter. Call 404-876-3302.

3. MUST, Marietta is giving away food and clothes daily from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. They also have a hot lunch at noon for anyone who is hungry (Monday-Friday) at 55 Elizabeth Church Rd., Marietta, 30060. 770-427-9862, www.mustministries.org.

MUST Ministries Conducts Job Fair
MUST Ministries is hosting a Job Fair for victims of Hurricane Katrina now in our community. Job opportunities will be available in various career fields, including Administrative Support, General Labor, and Industrial/Manufacturing. Those interested need to bring two (2) forms of ID and a resume or hand-written 3-year work history.
Where: MUST Smyrna Front Lobby, 460 Pat Mell Rd., Smyrna, GA
