Parents Notified of Choice School Options

August 2, 2006

Parents at 11 of the Cobb County School District’s 113 schools have received letters informing them of the choice school options required by the federal No Child Left Behind Act. Because these 11 schools have not made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for two consecutive school years, the District is required to offer parents a choice of two alternate schools their children can attend. The “receiver schools” are determined based on their geographic proximity to the student’s current school and space availability.

Parents interested in taking the choice school option must pick up and complete an application from their child’s current school and schedule a meeting with the principal by Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2006.

Following approval of the application by the principal, parents will receive a copy of an approved choice form, along with registration information for the receiver schools.

Bus transportation will be provided only from Title I schools (see list below) beginning Monday, Aug. 28, 2006. If students from Title I schools begin the year at a receiver school, parents will be asked to provide transportation for the first two weeks until bus schedules are set.

For additional information, parents should contact their child's current school.

NOTE - Schools in Red Font are closed for choice as of Friday, August 11
