2008 Summer School Programs

CRCT Summer School for 3rd, 5th, and 8th Grade Students

The CRCT Summer School is a service offered by Cobb County to students who do not pass the reading or mathematics CRCT in the spring for grades 3, 5, and 8. Local schools will notify parents if their students are candidates for CRCT Summer School after state scores are returned in late May.

If students in the gateway grades (3, 5, and 8) do not pass the required areas at the end of these grades, their report cards will indicate that they are retained pending results of a CRCT retest. Cobb County offers CRCT summer school from June 4 – June 26 from 8:00AM – 12:00PM
for these students prior to retesting. Transportation is provided for all but the make-up day. Students will receive intense direct instruction in the mathematics and/or reading areas of the CRCT they failed.

Test Dates:
June 25
 -  Reading
June 26  -  Math
June 27  -  Make up date for reading/math & re-test only students
(No transportation)

Students are expected but NOT required to go to summer school. However, they must retest to be considered for placement in the next grade. If parents appeal a retention decision, summer school attendance is often an important factor. Students who do not attend summer school must still register for retesting before the end of the year at their local school. This ensures that adequate testing materials and any needed testing accommodations are identified while local staff is available. View the chart for centralized summer school locations. Students will be transported from a neighborhood stop to the site serving your home school. Bus schedules will be posted at your local school entrance two days before classes begin.

Middle School Tuition Summer School

Local schools will notify parents if their students are candidates for Middle School Tuition Summer School. Middle School Tuition Summer School is a program provided primarily for the purpose of earning promotion to the next grade level or for remediation to strengthen skills in reading, math, social studies or science. Participation in the program is optional, but local schools may determine that a student’s promotion to the next grade level is contingent upon successful completion of Middle School Tuition Summer School.
