Pope Robotics Team 2015

Pope High School  >

Thanks to all the hardworking students, parents, teachers, mentors, coaches and sponsors who helped us this season. Everyone learned so much and made great strides toward a successful and STEM-filled future. We couldn't have done it without you!

Pope Robotics- New Direction for the 2015-16 season

Dr. Nourollahi and Mr. Crowder, in consultation with Dr. Downs, have decided to pursue different options for the Pope Robotics team for the 2015-2016 school year.

Dr. Nourollahi and Mr. Crowder have done an excellent job of outlining several of the reasons for the shift for next year including:

  • 1.       VEX, BEST, and SEAPERCH are completely student-centered and the students will design, build, and program the robots.

  • 2.        VEX, BEST, and SEAPERCH competitions offer the same engineering principles, including opportunities for creativity (you are not restricted to only one box of VEX parts).

  • 3.       More students will be involved in designing, building and programming.

  • 4.       More local competitions are available at a much lower cost.

  • 5.       Championships are within reach although teamwork and skill building are most important.

  • 6.       Team building, collaboration, and outreach are the most important components of Pope Robotics and these will be our focus.

This continues to be a year-round team activity that requires a strong level of commitment from both students and parents.

RISING FRESHMEN: Applications for all rising freshmen will be accepted in the Fall. Be sure to stop by our table at Greyhound Madness on July 28th to get more information about the team.

The 2015-16 Season will be Pope Robotics third year and we have many exciting changes ahead! Pope Robotics will be participating in VEX robotics competitions this year among other exciting changes.

Please note that active parent participation is required, and both students and parents will need to complete the application and an interview process.

Double Header Outreaches: Eastvalley and Tritt Elementary

With Peachtree Regional Competition approaching in less than two weeks, Team 4910 is working like a well-oiled machine. In order to prepare for Peachtree, the team is constructing the pit, designing spirit wear and giveaway items, the drive team is practicing, and we are letting people know about the competition by visiting local schools, hosting spirit nights, and promoting Peachtree all over Pope.

This past Thursday, we had about 15 team members visit both Tritt Elementary School and Eastvalley Elementary School. Our team members talked to the parents and kids by telling them about FIRST and all the benefits that it offers such as scholarships, valuable life skills, and learning skills about STEM from mentors and other teams.

We had tons of great feedback from the parents and students, and the event also gave us a chance to practice presentation skills for Peachtree, which is on March 26-28 from 9-4:30 in Hall B4 at the Georgia World Congress Center. More info to follow!
