Mr. & Miss Pope, Who's Who & Superlative Recipients for the Class of 2018

In 1988, the first graduating class of Pope High School searched for a way to recognize those seniors who represented the very best of their class.  They wanted to identify those individuals who had made the greatest contribution Pope High School during their years as a Greyhound.  What they devised is Pope’s Who’s Who: a tradition that celebrates its 31st year with the Class of 2018.  Who’s Who honors the top 7% of the graduating class based on their participation in Pope extra-curricular activities, personal academic achievement, and overall admiration among their classmates and teachers.  Thus, the students who are tapped into this year’s Who’s Who are those seniors who represent all-around excellence in the Class of 2018.

Congratulations to the Who's Who of 2018!

Congratulations to Hisham Kashif - Mr. Pope High School 2018!

Bright, personable, well-spoken, highly motivated, respectful, well-liked by faculty and peers, with outstanding character and integrity: These are just a few of the descriptors tossed about by faculty and staff when speaking about this young man. His counselor stated that he is one of the top students that she has encountered in her 25 year career. He is known for his positive and supportive nature which is only surpassed by his compassion and desire to help others. Because of these attributes, classmates willingly turn to him for help. He has a tremendous work ethic as evidenced by his all-AP class load. This student truly thrives on a fast-paced schedule that others might find daunting. He is proactive, having founded several clubs including the newly formed Rho Kappa, a social studies honor society. But his most shining accomplishments lie in the field of medicine. The summer after his sophomore year he participated in an internship at a pediatric clinic in the small mountain town of Jasper which he said opened his eyes to the contrast of lives between different socio-economic backgrounds. He was named a winner in the Emperor Science Award program, which was judged by several prominent scientists. Through this program, he is paired with a post-doctoral fellow at MD Anderson in Houston and is assisting in research on certain proteins and their relationship to cancer metastasis. He also currently interns at a local neurology practice. It is our honor to present Hisham Kashif as Mr. Pope High School.

Congratulations to Francesca Burke - Miss Pope High School 2018!

This young woman is consistently described in superlatives. Some of the many descriptors include “accomplished, vivacious and selfless”. Teachers universally say that she is among the best they have ever taught and makes them stay at the top of their game. Some have been quoted as saying that they want to be her when they grow up. She has won numerous faculty and achievement awards through her diligence, leadership in the classroom, and thirst for knowledge. In a school where we have many high achieving students with a wide range of interests, this student stands out among the best. Several have noted that in one week, she scored goals in a regional soccer match, performed the lead in the chorus Cabaret, dominated a Model UN conference, and pulled 5s on her AP exams with a smile on her face. She has a poise and presence that is natural and unpretentious. Others draw close to her for these qualities and she is always humble when chosen for her honors. She combines passionate idealism with practical problem solving. She is a member of the inaugural Globalization cohort and a candidate for the AP Capstone diploma as well as the International Skills Diploma. She is a National Merit Semifinalist. As a junior she was selected team captain of the soccer team by the seniors due to her natural leadership abilities. During her lunch period she audits chorus in order to squeeze in the activity that she loves. She is an Atlanta Braves Youth Leader and interned for the City of Marietta Government. She also interned with EF Tours which led the Globalization Academy on its European tour. Due to her time spent preparing and organizing logistics of a multi-country tour, she was selected to present the keynote speaker to the conference of over 1600 people from around the world. More than one person has said that she will one day be the Secretary of State. It is our honor to present Francesca Burke as Miss Pope High School.

Congratulations to the Senior Superlative recipients for the Class of 2018!
