Dear Parents:

I want to thank you for your support of Riverside Primary, the staff, and my leadership. After 30+ years

in the Cobb County School District, I have decided to retire from the position of principal at Riverside

Primary School.  Thanks to your support, I have experienced much success in this community.

Some of the initiatives that have been successful at Riverside under my leadership are below:

·         Developed the first Saturday Enrichment Program in Cobb (visual arts, literacy, French, instrument,

and dance) with an award of $7,000.00 from PTA in 1995

·         Organized a four-day, three- night field trip to Washington, D.C. for students in Grades 3-5

·         Implemented one of the first successful schoolwide Title I Programs in 1995

·         Engaged staff in the Professional Learning Communities Concept in 2004

·         Received three Distinguished Title I School Recognition Awards from Georgia

·         Received a Bronze Award for having the greatest achievement gain- Georgia Department of Education

·         Recognized by the Governor’s Office as an 80-80-80 school

·         Authored and received funding for two 21st Century Learning Communities Center Grants worth $1.8 million

·         Received numerous local and state PTA awards

·         Opened Riverside Elementary in 2000 and Riverside Primary in 2004

·         Addressed the Georgia State Educational Committee on early literacy

·         Implemented the Literacy Collaborative Model- a balanced literacy approach through Georgia State (1999)

·         Welcomed the Atlanta Braves to Cobb County

·         Implemented one of the first Dual Language Programs in Cobb

·         Initiated the first Breakfast Program in Cobb

While I appreciate the above recognitions and awards, the greatest accomplishments for me are to have

served as your child’s principal and to have worked in this great community for 30+ years. I appreciate

your support and the opportunity to lead in this community, develop great relationships, and to maintain a

clear focus on student achievement. My last day at Riverside will be June 30, 2020. It has been a great

pleasure and honor to serve this community.

Ms. Cynthia Winter has been named as principal and her start date is July 1, 2020. Please continue

working with the staff to embrace the new leadership to enhance student achievement. Thank you so

much for the many years of support and friendships.

With a grateful heart,

Dr. Doris Billups-McClure

Marietta-Roswell Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated

Brings Holiday Cheers to Riverside Primary

Students and their parents woke up early on Saturday to participate in an early literacy activity at the Village.  The activity was sponsored by the Marietta-Roswell Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Incorporated.  Students were engaged in arts and craft, a read aloud, a big hearty breakfast, each student received pajamas and a book, and of course shared their holiday wishes with Santa.   Assisting the Roswell Alumnae Chapter was the Atlanta Graduate Chapter of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Incorporated.

Riverside Primary introduced PBIS (positive behavioral intervention and support) to increase positive behavior of

students. A Pep Rally, featuring the Pebble

Brook Marching Eagles, was held on August 12th to introduce the program

 to students.
