Storytime & Book Exchange

Second Grade students visit the Library frequently for book exchange and storytimes.  Sope Creek Elementary participates in the Georgia Book Award program every year, and very often the students will hear stories from the nominee list.

Research & Library Skills

In addition to frequent storytimes, second grade students also receive information literacy instruction.  These lessons occur in conjunction with classroom projects and units.

Second graders are just completing a unit on Astronomy and each class visited the Library to learn how to use the elements of a non-fiction book to learn more about the topic being researched.  They completed an Awesome Astronomy booklet to help them use their skills and learn more about Astronomy.

Bibliographic Format & Copyright

Second graders are capable of being responsible and ethical users of information.  Part of this responsibility is giving credit where credit is due.  Cobb County schools use the MLA style as the basis for all format and citation questions.

Using the MLA format as a guide, Sope Creek uses a modified version for each grade level.  Click here to view the second grade bibliographic format template.
