Your Assignments for Tuesday, 15 April, 2008

SoccerBot

We are putting the finishing touches on the "standard program" that everyone will start with.  It should be ready very soon for you to copy and paste your autonomous code in and perhaps add a few lines if you want to use the remote control buttons.  I think this is a good challenge but at the same time, I'd really like to move forward before we have to start our final project.

Classwork/Homework  (due Thu, Apr 17)

Project Management

Here are several prompts for you to research and provide responses for over the next several days.  These need to be completed by the date provided above.  Please be sure to respond to these prompts in some manner that gives a casual reader an indication of the original prompt.

  1. What is a PERT chart?  What are they used for? What are the main components of a PERT chart?
  2. What is a Gantt Chart?  What are they used for?  What are the main components of a Gantt chart?
  3. How is a PERT chart different from a Gantt chart?  Are they used in the same manner?  Can they be used for the same purpose?  What types of projects are better planned using PERT charts?  Gantt charts?
  4. Create a PERT chart for a relatively complicated task, such as cooking a meal, or setting up a LAN party, hooking up an entertainment center, etc.
  5. Create a Gantt chart for the same task that you created a PERT chart for in prompt #4.
  6. Select one of the methods to create a plan for your group to complete the SoccerBot challenge that we are currently working on in class.  For a completion date for the project (aka competition date), consider Tuesday, April 22, 2008.
