Art Club -- To promote fine arts at WHS

Expectations: 1 monthly meeting after school

Color Guard -- Integral unit of Marching Band: spin flags, rifles, & dance to enhance visual part of marching show. Guard Letter available
Sponsor: Mark Hoskins, Anthony Higdon, Ann Bailey; Band Booster Club
Expectations: Practice 3-4 times per week; Friday football games; accompany Marching Band on all activities
Cost: Approx. $400 includes Band Camp & all marching costs; additional if a trip year; fundraisers defray costs
When: Summer Band Camp & practices (mandatory) ; fall season; potential trip in fall or spring
How to join: Clinic & tryouts in April
Background Req.: None (need not be a band member)
Parent Involvement.: Not required but needed: attend monthly Booster Club meetings, chaperone, fundraisers, move equipment, aid all activities

Indoor Drumline -- Produce indoor moving drill show of percussion and visuals. Contributes to Band/Guard Letter.
Sponsor: Mark Hoskins, Anthony Higdon; Band Booster Club
Expectations: Practice 3-4 times per week; weekend competitions
Cost: $30 PAS membership fee; varied costs for uniform & trips; Marching Band & other fund raisers defray costs
When: Practices begin at end of marching competition (Oct-Nov); approx. 3 competitions in fall
How to join: See band teacher, drumline instructor
Background Req.: Team composed of Marching Band members
Recommendation: Band teacher, drumline instructor
Parent Involvement.: Not required but needed: chaperone, fundraisers, move equipment, aid all activities

International Thespian Society -- National honor society to recognize exceptional drama students. Drama Letter available.
Sponsor: Wendy Gilstrap, Frank Pruet
Expectations: Conference in February
Cost: $21 dues (this is a lifetime, once-only dues)
When: Entire year
How to join: No application; Induction at end-of-year Drama Banquet
Background Req.: 10 Thespian "points" (hours working on drama productions: 10 hours=1 point, 3 tech points minimum); Honor Thespians 60 "points" (Seal on diploma and honor cords at graduation)
Parent Involvement.: Not required but appreciated -- chaperones, drivers, banquet organization

Jazz Band -- Rehearse and perform classic and modern jazz music and improvisation techniques. Contributes to Band Letter.

Expectations: Practice once per week, some extra rehearsals, District festival and concerts in spring
Cost: Uniform (tshirt)
When: Practices begin March, performances in spring

Background Req.: Proficiency in instrument; instruments accepted as needed by selected music
Recommendation: Band teacher

Expectations: Practice 3 times per week; Friday football games; Saturday competitions
Cost: Approx. $475 for Camps and additional costs (est. $300) for the season
When: Summer Band Camp & practices (mandatory) ; fall season; potential trip in fall or spring
How to join: Sign up, deposit in spring; Leadership positions have auditions in spring
Background Req.: Must play an instrument or have been in band at another school; enrollment in band class
Parent Involvement.: Not required but needed: attend monthly Booster Club meetings, chaperone, fundraisers, move equipment, aid all activities

Winter Guard -- Produce indoor show of flags, rifles, and dance.
Sponsor: Ann Bailey
Expectations: Practice approx. 3-4 times per week; weekend competitions (some overnight)
Cost: Approx. $450 additional cost if out of state competitions are attended (SCGC   *Southeastern Color Guard Circuit*, WGI  *Winter Guard International*)  and extra overnight expenses occur
When: November through April
How to join: Clinic and tryouts held in early November
Background Req.: None  but prior dance experience (ballet) is helpful; (need not be a band member)
Parent Involvement.: chaperone practices, driving to/from competitions, some overnight chaperoning, helping with equipment and floor at competitions
