Wheeler Alumni
Association -- A non-profit organization
to promote communication, coordination and fellowship among former
students, faculty and staff of Joseph Wheeler High School and to continue
the traditions of pride, service and excellence that Wheeler teaches.

Expectations: Activities and services are coordinated through the website. The Association publishes a yearly newsletter (The Cat's Tale); provides yearly college scholarships for WHS graduates; offers coordination of reunion planning efforts; maintains a permanent archive for WHS yearbooks, newspapers and other memorabilia; hosts a yearly All-Classes Homecoming Picnic; arranges a yearly Alumni Holiday Party. Class
Advisory Boards -- Student group of 4
officers, 20-30 members for each class to represent and organize class
activities, fundraisers. Auction (November) put on by Sophomore class
is a major fundraiser for Prom; Prom (spring) put on by Junior
Class.
Freshman Class
Sponsor: Ms. Phillips
When: Entire year
Cost: Pay class dues
Expectations: Meetings (weekly to bi-monthly), fundraisers, operate
and attend activities
How to join: Application and interview in early fall semester.
Background Req.: Demonstrated involvement and willingness to work

Sophomore Class
Sponsor: Ray Furstein
When: Entire year
Cost: Pay class dues
Expectations: Meetings (weekly to bi-monthly), fundraisers, operate
and attend activities
How to join: Application and interview in spring of prior year
Background Req.: Demonstrated involvement and willingness to work
Parent involvement: For Sophomore Auction, many parents needed to
plan, collect donations, help cook
Junior Class
Sponsors: Dr. James Carter. Ellen Levine, Phyllis Huseby
When: Entire year
Cost: Pay class dues
Expectations: Meetings (weekly to bi-monthly), fundraisers, operate
and attend activities
How to join: Application and interview in spring of prior year
Background Req.: Demonstrated involvement and willingness to work

Senior Class
---- For members of the senior class who want to plan senior
activities, which include: Senior Banquet, Who's Who Assembly, Homecoming
Parade, Homecoming Festivities, Graduation, Senior Picnic, football
and basketball tailgates, etc.
Sponsor: Ms. Sarah Wheatley and Mr. Jason Borcherding
Expectations: Wed. mornings 7:50 a.m. in room 002. All advisory board
members must join a committee and participate. Missing more than two
meetings results in dismissal from advisory board.
Cost: No cost to join advisory board, but all seniors are required
to pay $35 for dues. Seniors are not allowed to buy prom tickets until
they pay dues. Dues pay for the cost of the senior class t-shirts,
tailgates, supplies for Homecoming float, senior picnic, etc.
When: Entire year
How to join: Applications due at the end of the previous school year.
At this point, all senior advisory board positions are filled. If
a board member is dismissed, a new member will be selected.
Background Req.: Participation in Junior Advisory board.
Parent Involvement.: Help with tailgates, senior picnic, Who's Who
Assembly luncheon, Senior Banquet, and homecoming festivities. Due
to the religious nature of Baccalaureate, Cobb. Co. rules prevent
the sponsors from being involved in planning this event. This event
relies totally on parent involvement.

FCA (Fellowship of
Christian Athletes) -- Support Christian students through
speakers and music. Open to all students.

Expectations: Weekly meetings (Friday before school)
Cost: None

Parent involvement: Volunteers to distribute breakfast

Expectations: Attend 3 lunch & learn seminars per semester. Attend
either 1 fall or spring training session. Service opportunities include
Reading Club and babysitting at elementary schools; help PTSA/principal
with school grounds; tour guides; hosts and hostesses for school functions.
