Overview Cobb County School District’s Tuition Summer School is available
for currently enrolled Cobb County School District students in
grades 9 through 12. Courses may be taken for credit recovery or for
initial credit. Face-to-face courses are offered in the four core
areas and in health/personal fitness, however, courses actually
taught vary according to student demand. Courses for initial credit
are taught in a traditional format with a certified teacher planning
and leading instruction. Students wishing to recover credit may take
courses through the traditional approach or through computer-based
NovaNET. Students may take NovaNET courses in the four core subjects. Although credits earned through
Cobb County’s NovaNET count toward a student’s graduation
requirements and meet admissions requirements to post-secondary
institutions, NovaNET courses are not accepted by the NCAA for
athletic eligibility. In order to offer as many
classes as possible, all courses will be offered as half units with
'A' and 'B' classes available during two distinct sessions. Students
who need a 'Y' class or a whole unit, will simply register for an
'A' class during Session I and a 'B' class during Session II. This
change will better be able to accommodate the needs of students,
regardless of what schedule their high school uses. The change
should have no real impact on students who need a whole unit, but
those students needing only a half unit will enjoy the benefit of
completing summer school in just two weeks. General Information Sites: Osborne High School Dates: Monday, June 10, 2013 –
Friday, July 12, 2013 (Sessions I and II) Classes meet Monday - Thursday
(only 1 Friday on July 12) Cost*: $275 per ˝ unit course;
$550 per full unit *The credit card/electronic funds transfer payment option includes an additional $12 enrollment convenience fee that is paid to the credit card processor, FACTS. This fee is nonrefundable with the exception of course cancellation made by Cobb County Summer School. Times: Monday – Thursday:
8:00 a.m. – 3:05 p.m. First Days: Unless notified otherwise, students who registered for any 'A' class, Government, or Health should report to Osborne High School at the start of Session I on Monday, June 10 at 7:45 a.m. to pick up their course schedule and start their first day. Students who registered ONLY for a 'B' class, Economics, or Personal Fitness should report to Osborne High School at the start of Session II on Wednesday, June 26 at 7:45 a.m. to pick up their course schedule and start their first day. All NovaNET students and those students who registered for both 'A' and 'B' classes will begin on June 10 and continue into Session II. Attendance: Since each summer school session lasts for only 10 days, daily attendance is critical. Missing a day in such a compressed schedule can drastically impact academic progress. For that reason, we ask that you do not plan trips, vacations, or appointments while summer school is in session. Any student missing 1.5 days during a session will be withdrawn from summer school and will not be issued a refund. However, students who are withdrawn for attendance during Session I may return for Session II if they have previously registered for a class being taught during that time period. Graduation: The Summer School Graduation Ceremony will be held on July 12 at 7:30 p.m. at Osborne High School. Students completing high school graduation requirements through Tuition Summer School or through Cobb Virtual Academy may participate if they indicate their desire to do so and attend the required rehearsal.
