Durham Dress Code Reminder In keeping with Cobb County Dress Code Policy JCBD, Durham’s dress code reflects a minimum standard of grooming and dress that reflects the respect for the formality of the learning environment. Required standard of dress for students: Shoes shall be worn. Caps, hats, or other head covering are not to be worn in the building during the day unless there is a special activity during which they are deemed appropriate by the administration. Clothing or ornamentation displaying or advertising substances or activities illegal for minors is prohibited. Suggestive phrases, designs, markings or profanities are also prohibited. No midriff shirts or blouses are allowed. Shirts and blouses should cover the midriff and touch the waist band. Appropriate undergarments are required and should not be visible. Strapless dresses, tops or blouses must be worn with a jacket. Tank-tops are not permitted. Shorts, skirts and dresses that are “mid-thigh length” are appropriate. Clothing may not contain holes above the knee. Spandex, or other tight fitting stretch knit clothing is unacceptable attire by itself or as an under liner for torn clothes. Appropriate skirts, shorts, or pants should be worn over such tight fitting clothing. Any clothing which may create a disruption of the routine functions of a school day may be deemed inappropriate. Proper dress is an important component for sustaining the formality of the school situation and we solicit and appreciate your support and cooperation. Parents or students who have specific questions about a garment’s appropriateness should consult the administration before wearing the garment to school. Students who are improperly dressed will NOT be allowed to attend class. Violators of the dress code will be placed in isolation for the remainder of the day or until proper clothing is obtained. Repeated/persistent violations will be considered insubordination and necessitate other consequences.
