Summer Reading Requirements
Durham Middle School The primary purposes of a summer reading program are to have students read more and to experience enjoyment in the process. Cobb County School District has made recommendation for summer reading that include reading at least two books from diverse genres including nonfiction, and that students should complete an activity for each book that demonstrate their understanding of each reading. In accordance with the Cobb County School District’s summer reading recommendations, students at Durham Middle School are encouraged to read a variety of materials. We have established summer reading guidelines for all students at Durham that can be accessed through a link on the school’s homepage: www.cobbk12.org/schools/durham Summer reading is required; however, students do not have to choose from the suggested reading list. Students may choose any book that interests them, as long as it is of the appropriate length (min. 150 pages) and complexity for a sixth grade reader. There is a writing assignment for each book the student reads which will count as a grade. The Fiction and Non-Fiction writing assignments are due August 22, 2008. Students will receive a Language Arts grade for each assignment. The assignments are: Writing Activities
Both assignments are due to the Language Arts teacher on August 22, 2008 Reading List
