The AP's Place

Dear Davis Community,
How pleased we all are to see March come bringing the promise of spring weather! We are certainly enjoying the rain that has come with the beginning of March as well.
At school this month, the fifth grade students will complete the Fifth Grade Writing Assessment on March 5. They have been working all year to build their writing skills. Now, they will respond to a prompt and have their writing assessed by others.
Daylight Savings Time begins on March 9. As we adjust to the time change, it may be time to adjust morning routines to help students arrive at school on time. Students should be in their classrooms ready to learn by 7:50 a.m. What a difference it makes when students can take advantage of all of the school day for learning! I also encourage you to help us with the use of buses or carpool line during arrival and dismissal. We have a number of students and parents who walk across the carpool line. This is a safety concern that we would like to avoid. If you need to walk your child into the school, please go to the crosswalk where a staff member has a STOP sign for safe crossing.
This is the time of year when we begin to look toward the CRCT in April. Teachers have shared with you a site where there are practice tests should you want to give your child some exposure to items written in the form of those on the CRCT. As always, careful attention to classroom learning and continued reading by students is a wonderful way to support students in their learning. Please take some time each day to read with your child as you enjoy the coming of spring together.
Thanks again for your support of Davis,
Lucia Brown
Assistant Principal
