Welcome to the Dowell After School Program. We are pleased that you have
opted to take advantage of our After School Program. We look forward to
another great year of providing a safe environment for our students to
grow socially.
The
After School Program is a PREPAID PROGRAM. It is a nonprofit
program offered for the benefit of our parents and students. ASP is a
self-sustaining program and receives no tax money for operating. There
is a fee of $7.00 per day per child for each day the child attends the
program. It is your responsibility to make sure that your payment is not
delinquent. Any payment not prepaid is
delinquent.
No
child may stay unless a prepaid fee has been received before 9:00 A.
M. of the day the child is staying. Payments may be made for
specific days or at the beginning of the week. Payments must be made in
the envelope provided by ASP, and it should be placed in safe in front
of the media center.
Monthly or summary statements
of student ASP accounts are available upon request.
REGISTRATION:
In
order for a child to stay in our After School Program, he or she must
have both a registration card and a signed ASP guidelines form. There is
a one-time registration fee of $10.00. Rates are $7.00 per day/ $35.00
weekly.
For
your child's safety, it is very important that all information is
correct on the ASP registration card. We must have a complete list of
names and telephone numbers of people who have permission to pick up
your child.

HOURS
OF OPERATION: SCHOOL DISMISSAL UNTIL 6:00 P.M.
ASP
will not operate during holiday, teacher workday, or snow day, but will
operate during conference week and early release day.
Attendance will be taken immediately after ASP students are dismissed.
If your child is picked up after 2:45 P.M., the account will be charged
for the day.
SIGN-OUT DESK:
The sign-out desk is located in the main hallway of the school. Please
come to this desk and we will call for your child. The workers will not
dismiss children until they receive this call. This procedure is to
ensure the safety of all children.
Be prepared to show identification
when
you pick your child
up from the
After School Program.
While we make every effort to recognize our parents, we
request that you be prepared to show your I.D. on a daily basis for your
child’s safety.
GOING
HOME:
We ask that parents make sure that their child knows how to get home
(ASP, bus, a car rider, walker). Any changes in the way your child
normally goes home must be sent in writing to the classroom teacher. If
your child does not have a note, we will send him/her home in the usual
way.
BEHAVIOR:
All Cobb County School District policies in the student handbook apply
to ASP and must also be followed. Although the After School Program
environment is more relaxed than the normal school day, we do have
established behavior expectations for students in the ASP program. Three
write-ups on our pink discipline sheet will result in a major "white"
discipline form. In case of a major offense, such as fighting, the
"pink" warning sheets are bypassed. The write-up will be on a "white"
discipline form. Three "white" discipline forms
will result in withdrawal from ASP.
LATE
PICK-UP:
The Dowell After School Program is in operation from school dismissal to
6:00 P.M. Late fees are charged for a pick-up after 6:00 P.M. The
cost is $1.00 per child per minute. We strongly suggest that parents
have relatives or friends available to pick up children if parents are
not able to arrive by 6:00 P.M.
To
insure safety and security of all students in ASP, the Cobb County
Police Department will be contacted by a school official should an
emergency occur which threatens the welfare of a child. A late pick-up
by parents may be considered an emergency. If a child has not been
picked up by 6:30 P. M., we will contact the Cobb County Police
Department assuming that we have been unable to contact a parent or
authorized person on the registration form. Our phones will be manned
from 3:00 P. M. to 6:00 P. M. so you can notify us of an emergency.
REASONS FOR WITHDRAWAL FROM ASP:
1.
Three "white" discipline forms
2.
Three late pickups
3.
Uncooperative parents.
ACTIVITIES:
snack,
homework time,
socialization time
Enrichment classes: computers, cooking, art, crafts,
dance, basketball (4th and 5th)
Enrichment classes will not begin until September.
HOMEWORK:
A quiet time will be provided to students with the option
of completing their homework or reading a book.
There will be no drawing or talking during this time. While your child
is allowed to complete their homework, it is not our responsibility to
make sure that they complete it. Please make sure that your child has
the necessary materials for completing their homework.
