Emergency Preparedness Committee Update

Police Department PENS Program

PENS (Police Email Notification System) is a service provided by our local police precincts to inform residents about community issues, crime prevention, and safety tips. Please visit the Program Web site for more information.

We now have 14 Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) trained in our area.

On another note, we are making a recommendation to Frey Families. In the event that cell and land-line phones are unavailable, the Emergency Preparedness Committee will monitor Channel 7 with no security code (privacy code set to ‘0’) on FRS/GMRS radios. These are the typical two-way radio that you can buy just about anywhere. Our recommendation is to get a radio that allows you to use ‘AA’ batteries in addition to a rechargeable battery pack. The Emergency Preparedness Committee will also be running an Amateur Radio ‘Ham’ station. This amateur radio station will be able to communicate with the Cobb Emergency Operations Center (EOC). We will be able to relay requests for emergency assistance to the 911 Call Center through this means. In December, we will be announcing test dates and times. People that own radios will be able to test them on the air to make sure that they are able to communicate with the Emergency Preparedness Committee.

In January, we will be holding an Emergency Preparedness Committee meeting. If you are interested in being involved, please attend.

Together we prepare!
