A = 100-90

B = 89 - 80

C = 79-74

D = 73-70

F =  69 and below

 

GPA Calculation and Weights

All regular level courses receive the following Grade Point Average Weight for each grade on their Cobb County high school transcript:

A = 4.0

B = 3.0

C = 2.0

D = 1.0

F = 0.0

Honors courses receive an additional 0.5 weight

AP courses receive an additional 1.0 weight.

 

HOPE Scholarship GPA Calculation and Weights

In order to receive the HOPE Scholarship, students must earn a final GPA of 3.0 in all their CORE courses (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Foreign Languages).  An additional weight of 0.5 is given to AP courses.

PLEASE REMEMBER!!!  Colleges and scholarships often consider the level of course (regular, honors, AP), in addition to a student's GPA and test scores, for admissions and award decisions; therefore we encourage students to take as rigorous a level of class as possible in addition to maintaining a competitive GPA for HOPE.

 

Grade Level Promotion

Students are promoted to the next grade level based on the number of credits earned at the start of each school year.

9th Grade (Freshman) - below 5.0 units of credit

10th Grade (sophomore) - 5.0 units of credit

11th Grade (Junior) - 10.0 units of credit

12th Grade (Senior ) - 16.0 units of credit

Promotions for underclassmen occurs at the beginning of the school year only.  Retained Seniors (who are still Juniors) and Juniors graduating a year early can be promoted during second semester if they are, in fact, on track to graduate that school year.  Retained Seniors who will be coming back for an additional year of school will remain at the Junior designation.

Homeroom placement is determined by credits earned and grade level, not by numbers of years in high school.
