high school graduation. Upon completion of graduation
requirements, Students receive diplomas from their home school.
Students also choose to come to Oakwood because they need a
flexible school day schedule, want to get back on track with
their classmates, or they simply want a fresh start in a
different kind of school. Students are NOT administratively
placed at Oakwood; they come by choice. The school’s climate is
flexible, positive, and supportive. The teachers work with
students to help assure both academic and personal success. They
also work with students to provide both people skills and
thinking skills necessary for success in life. Classes are
offered on a quarterly system and generally have an enrollment
of 10-20 students. Interested students may contact their grade

Cobb County Performance Learning Center (PLC) Alternative
School Referrals –
The Performance Learning Center - a business-like learning
environment for academic innovation where students undertake and
complete assignments via NOVA Net with assistance from a
learning facilitator(s). The general purpose is to enable
students, whose academic success may be threatened, to become
successful students who are prepared to move to the next level
educationally, vocationally and as citizens of Georgia. PLC’s
provide another road to graduation for high school students who
are not succeeding in the traditional school setting. They
allow students to work at their own pace using online,
computer-based curriculum; and provide students with
internships, dual college enrollment and technical training.
Teachers or counselors refer students to the PLC who are behind
in credits, absent an inordinate number of days, at risk of
dropping out of school, do not meeting grade level competencies,
are in need of flexible academic programming in order to
overcome personal obstacles, read at a 6th grade level or
higher (recommended but not necessarily required). All
students assigned to the PLC achieve at basic grade level
competencies before advancing, develop a personal life plan
designed to enable them to succeed in school and in life, can
catch up academically or move ahead at their own pace, will
attain certifiable employability upon graduation. Upon
completion of graduation requirements, Students receive diplomas
from their home school. Interested students may contact their
grade level counselor or Dr. Gilliard, Graduation Coach at
770-222-3710 ext. 267 or
Kenya.gilliard@cobbk12.org for enrollment/registration
materials. You may also call the Performance Learning Center

Cobb County Adult Education Program –
Is open to all residents of Cobb County who wish to pursue an
Adult Basic Education (ABE), Adult High School Diploma (AHSD),
GED and English as a Second Language (ESL). The programs are
open to all students 16 years of age and older who are NOT
enrolled in a conventional high school program. Students who are
16 or 17 must bring a parent or legal guardian to a scheduled
conference with the Adult Ed. counselor before enrolling. Signed
parental consent is required. Classes are open mornings or
evenings to all interested students from mid July to May.
Students 18 and under, who leave their conventional school
during the school year to enter Adult Education, must bring a
withdrawal form their last school attended.
Cobb
County Adult High School Programs -
To receive a diploma the student must have completed 18 credits.
Transcripts from other high schools will be evaluated to
determine the number of credits needed to graduate. All
transcripts need to be official. An official transcript is one
that is sent from the last school attended in a sealed envelope
to the counselor at the Adult Education Center.
COST for Adult High School Diploma Program is $100 plus book fees for in county, $125
plus book fees for out of county. In this program, students
take three subjects each day. Upon completion of a class, the
grade and the credit earned will be recorded on the student’s
transcript. The student will then be assigned a new class in
that time slot. All classes are self-paced (reflecting the
individual’s progress) and staffed with a qualified high school
teacher whose role is to guide and tutor all students as well as
to administer and grade all tests. Progress in each class is
highly individualized. Graduating students will receive a
Cobb County Adult High School diploma. This diploma is not the
same as a traditional high school diploma. However, it is a
real high school diploma, which reflects our program developed
to meet the needs of the more mature adult. This diploma is
usually, accepted by most branches of the military and colleges.
The Adult Education program cannot be responsible for your
acceptance into these programs. Credits earned in our program do
not transfer back to Cobb County High Schools. Students who
complete a program are offered the opportunity to participate in
an Adult Education Graduation Ceremony.
