To promote a safe environment, free from
distractions to the learning process, students should follow
the dress code below:
Shoes shall be worn at all times. Bedroom
shoes and athletic sandals are not appropriate for school
wear. It is recommended that students do not wear the thin
soled beach style flip flops.
Clothing or ornamentation displaying or
advertising substances that are illegal for minors is
prohibited. Suggestive phrases, designs, markings, or
profanities are also prohibited.
Short and skirt length must be at least
to the tip of the longest finger when the student is standing
straight. If the dress/skirt has a slit, the highest point of
the slit must meet the fingertip rule. When a student drops
his/her hands by their side, their fingers should be touching
fabric. Inappropriate shorts include bike shorts, cut-offs
that are not hemmed, cut off sweat pants, umbros, "spandex"
pants/shorts, boxer shorts, physical education or work-out
shorts such as basketball shorts, and shorts with holes.
Athletic shorts may be worn in physical education (see PE
dress code below).
All shirts and/or dresses must have
sleeves. No midriff shirts, blouses or tops are permitted. The
midriff (stomach area) must be covered even when the arms are
raised. See through tops may only be worn if the clothing
underneath meets the dress code. Wearing a jacket over a tank
top or short shirt is not an acceptable solution. Necklines
should not encourage others to stare.
Appropriate undergarments are required,
and should not be seen.
In the building, students are expected to
remove sunglasses, hats, caps, bandanas, visors, sweatbands,
hoods, scarves or other items covering the head and store them
in their locker.
Pants or jeans with holes or tears above
the knee are prohibited. Pajama pants are not appropriate
school attire. Tightly fitted knit pants should not be worn to
school.
Pants or jeans are to be worn at the
natural waistline and be held up if needed by a belt.
Clothing, make-up or hairstyles which, in
the judgment of the school, call undue attention to an
individual or interferes with the planned educational program
may not be worn to the school. The school reserves the right
to make judgments in individual cases.
If there is a question about the
appropriateness of a students attire, he/she will be referred
to an administrator. If it is determined that the garment is
offensive or inappropriate, the student will be asked to
change clothes. If the student cannot obtain a change of
clothes, he/she will be isolated for the remainder of the
school day. Upon the 3rd dress code violation, the student
will be assigned to In-school suspension.
Students must wear gym shorts or warm-up
pants/sweatpants, a loose-fitting T-shirt with sleeves, socks,
and tennis shoes that tie (no slip-ons) in order to
participate in PE.
Shorts and pants must have an elastic
waistline, have no snaps or zippers. (except near ankles), and
shorts must be at least as long as the longest fingertip when
standing with arms straight. Cheerleading shorts and
cargo-style shorts are not to be worn in PE.
T-shirts must be loose-fitting with
sleeves, be able to be tucked in and stay tucked in with arms
raised.
All school dress code policies are also
in effect for PE.
