McEachern, Lassiter and Harrison high school volleyball teams played in a tournament, Dig for the Cure, to benefit the Breast Cancer Foundation. The teams wore pink shirts and raised over $8000 for the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation.

Lady Indians Put the Merry in Merry Christmas
When not on the court, the ladies basketball team demonstrates their compassion for others by providing Christmas gifts for three families.  On Tuesday, December 18 the 46 member Lady Indians Basketball Team went on a shopping adventure purchasing toys, presents, and clothing items for four children.  The girls used their own money to buy games, action figures, backpacks, clothing, perfume, and music so that needy families will have a joyful Christmas.

The Woodwind Ensemble Performs for the Powder Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. On December 12, the Woodwind Ensemble visited the local nursing and rehabilitation center to perform holiday music for the residents and to share the holiday spirit.

Becca's Closet recently assisted 20 girls in finding formalwear to wear to an award banquet.  The ladies receiving the dresses are from the after school group, "Future Seekers", and were being honored for their commitment to staying drug and gang free.  Thanks to McEachern's Becca's Closet Chapter, the young ladies will be attending in style!

HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) and the students in the Health and Medical Occupations courses worked with Sweetwater Valley Community Action Mission Program (CAMP) and sponsored a family of five for the holidays. The students and their sponsor, Ms. Null, shopped together at Wal-mart and students donated gifts to the family that included a new bicycle for a little boy, clothes and toys for the sisters, and a guitar for the older brother.  The students even purchased the family's mom a coffee pot, mugs, a warm sweater, and snuggly robe. Additional donated money was used to purchase the family a gift card to help with holiday meals.

The Varsity Boys Basketball Team, Coach Taylor, and Coach Thompson helped Varner Elementary with the annual 'Reindeer Run'. The Track and Field Team has done this for the last 3 years.  The teams helped the kids stretch, warm-up, were stationed at various spots on the course for support and direction. A few folks ran with the children along the way, and provided a lot of high five's and cheers as they finished.

Track team members William Wynne and Darious Garrett spent a hot summer afternoon speaking to about 200 kids in the area in regards to the importance of staying in school, making good grades, staying out of trouble and away from gangs.  This was at an outreach mission trip located at Wildhorse Park and sponsored by First Baptist Powder Springs.

Foundations of Family and Consumer Science students in Mrs. Dorsey's Class constructed tote bags during the month of October to donate to Kennestone Hospital for breast Cancer Awareness month.  The bags were made out of Breast Cancer Awareness fabric and will be given out to patients filled with information as they begin their journey through treatment.  The classes made and delivered 50 bags to the Woman's Center at Kennestone.

The McEachern Swim Team collected unwrapped toys and donated them to a family in need.

DECA marketing students made holiday cards nursing home residents and wrote letters to troops stationed overseas. The DECA members also donated to the Empty Stocking Fund.

National Honor Society sponsored a very successful can drive to feed the hungry and collected more cans than could be transported in one trip.

FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) collected canned food for the food bank and created holiday cards for nursing home patients.

Beta Club serves the community through the holidays by making Operation Christmas Child boxes to be sent to children in underprivileged countries through Samaritan's Purse, sent mail and care packages to troops stationed overseas, collected canned goods with NHS, and sponsored an angel tree to provide gifts for families in need at the holidays.
Beta Club community service projects during the year include: assisting teachers on pre-planning and teacher workdays, serving as student mentors at 9th Grade Induction, assisting at Open House and College Fair night, volunteering at Fall Festivals and Winter Carnivals at the local elementary and middle schools, volunteering with Compton's after school program, sponsoring a Red Cross Blood Drive collecting over 150 pints of blood, painting murals for hospital walls through Hospital Art Foundation, assisting the Booster Club in the concession stands at sporting events, serving as soccer buddies for TOPSoccer, a program for disabled youth, making school kits to be used in local elementary schools
