GMEA Performance Evaluation
8th Grade Bands
2008-2009
Dear Dodgen Band Parent,
The GMEA Performance Evaluation is the state-standards evaluation for all band programs in Georgia and is a major educational event. Due to the scheduling issues involved for this district evaluation, we will not be made aware of our actual performance date and time until about two weeks prior to the event. Two weeks would not give me time to distribute and collect permission forms, so I am electing to present the permission letter in this format. The 8th grade GMEA evaluation dates for our district are set for March 9th, 10th, and 11th at McEachern High School in Cobb County. As I have done each year, I have asked that each family mark these dates on the family calendar in August which was when you were issued the band calendar for the year. You are asked to keep these dates free of conflicts because every student in every band class performs a part that can not be replaced in their absence. Although we may not know the exact date or time until two weeks prior to our evaluation, I am asking that these forms be signed and returned to me by Friday, February 6, 2009. As soon as I receive the finalized evaluation schedule, I will send out an e-mail to all families so that you can immediately release the other dates on your calendar. The main point with this evaluation is to make sure that you communicate these dates to all sponsors and/or coaches of other school and community groups involving your child. These sponsors are always understanding about the importance of school sponsored evaluations over community activities of any kind. There could be a problem, however, if these sponsors are not informed until the last minute. Please help keep your child free of a schedule conflict for this most important annual performance evaluation. Thanks!

GMEA Performance Evaluation Permission Form
8th Grade Bands
My child,____________________________________________has permission to attend the mandatory GMEA State Standards Performance Evaluation performance during the week of March 9th through the 11th, 2009. I understand that final dates and times will be communicated no later that two weeks prior to the evaluation. I understand that students will be departing from Dodgen near the end of the school day for this evaluation and will return to Dodgen 9:30 PM. Transportation to and from this event will be either on a Cobb County School bus or a charter bus. I understand, according to GMEA policies, that my child must wear the complete Dodgen Band uniform which includes the official Dodgen band shirt, long solid black pants, dark dress shoes and black socks. I understand that failure to wear the appropriate uniform will have a negative impact on the entire band's evaluation score. Students must have their individual part prepared for all musical selections on the program.
