GMEA District 12 Honor Band Audition

2008-2009

Auditions for the GMEA District 12 Honor Band will be held here at Dodgen Middle School on  Saturday, December 6, 2008. The audition fee is $7.00.  The audition fee and application  are due no later than Friday, August 29, 2008. Please make all checks payable to Dodgen Middle School. The audition material is the same as the GMEA All-State Band, without the etude:

1. Four major scales with arpeggio as posted on the GMEA website

(www.GMEA.org....go to the Band Division link, then the All-State Band link,

then the All-State Band Middle School Band Scales and Etudes)

2. Chromatic scale, full range.

3. Two short sightreading exercises in contrasting styles.

4.  In addition, percussionists must perform a set of 4 snare drum rudiments, and show proficiency in timpani tuning.

Students may get copies of the required scale sheets from Dr. Jackson or Mr. Jeffres. The scales must be performed from memory at the audition.  For those passing the audition, rehearsals will be held on February 13th & 14th, with the final concert being presented on Sunday, February 15th, 2009.  Each participating  middle school band student will wear their school’s band uniform for the concert. Check your calendar to insure you can fulfill the time commitment BEFORE you audition. Tardiness and/or absences from rehearsals are not permitted. By preparing for the audition, all participants improve their personal musical skills and ability. Therefore, regardless of the audition results, all students are winners! Please take advantage of this opportunity to add some challenge and excitement to your band experience!

Due to the time it takes to process money and to complete check requests, no audition fees will be  accepted after Friday, August 29, 2008.
