Our Heroes Contest Winners!

Honoring Our Heroes Contest

Congratulations to Jane L. and Rachel H., who wrote this year’s winning entries in the Dodgen Honoring Our Heroes Contest.  Both Jane and Rachel wrote outstanding descriptions of their heroes and the manner in which their heroes have influenced their lives.  Jane’s hero is her father, and Rachel’s hero is her orchestra teacher, Dodgen’s Mrs. Ashley Culley.  Our two winners have gone on to represent Dodgen at the next level of competition.

Additionally, the judges this year awarded Honorable Mention Recognition to Devin M. and Hannah C.   Devin’s hero is his mother, and Hannah’s hero is her Aunt Jean.  As one judge put it “in both cases, the author and their hero are heroes.”  Congratulations to Devin and Hannah, also.

There were more than 25 outstanding entries in this year’s contest.  All entrants received an ice cream treat.

Ms. Fletcher, health teacher at Dodgen Middle School, recently sponsored a

community service drive to fill 125 holiday stockings to donate to

not-for-profit Operation Stars & Stripes, Inc.'s 5th Annual Stockings for Soldiers

Campaign. Pictured with Ms. Fletcher are the two sixth grade health classes that tied

for 1st place with the most donated items.

All stockings will be sent to troops currently serving in Iraq and

Afghanistan this holiday season. For more information on how you can help with this

campaign or to make a donation to help with postage, please visit

We collected monetary donations and toiletries from September 6th through the 16th. All money is being donated to the Red Cross.  Toiletries will be distributed through the United Methodist Church.  So far, we have collected approximately $6,000!
