We currently offer Advanced Content Science, Language Arts, and Social
Studies at grades 6, 7, and 8. A screening for advanced content
classes is completed automatically at the end of 5th grade and at the
beginning of 7th grade. Students new to Simpson from outside of
Georgia are screened as they enter the school Placement in the advanced
content classes is based on academic performance on nationally normed
standardized tests such as the Iowa Test of Basic Skills, the CRCT and
the CogAT, as well as on cumulative average in core subjects.
Students in the advanced content classes must maintain an 80 or above
average in each advanced content class. If the performance does
not meet the Cobb County criteria for continued participation, the
parent and student will be notified in writing of probation. A
conference will be scheduled to develop an intervention plan.
Probationary status remains in effect for the entire year unless
discontinuation of services is required.
