Congratulations to Hassan Goggins for being
selected to State Superintendent Richard Woods’ Student Advisory
Council for the 2015-2016 school year. He was selected from a
pool of more than 1,500 middle school and high school students
across the state. Throughout the school year, this council
will meet with Superintendent Woods to discuss the impact of
state policies in the classroom, other issues related to
education, and will serve as the Superintendent’s ambassadors.

Attention all Students!
If you would like to serve on the
Principal's Student Advisory Board, please pick up an
application and Teacher Recommendation form from the front
office. The application must be completely filled out and the
Teacher Recommendation form must be filled out by a teacher and
signed. The application deadline is September 18th. If you were
on the Board last year, there is no need for you to fill out an
Apple For Your Teacher
and the Marietta Daily Journal (MDJ) have teamed up to give a
local teacher, from Kindergarten to 12th grade, an
iPad each week of the 2015-2016 school year. The first
winner will be announced the week of October 1, 2015 and then
consecutively each week through the end of May, 2016.
Parents and students can go to
nominate a teacher. Entries can also be submitted by visiting
the MDJ online @ www.mdjonline.com and
clicking on the
for Teachers” icon on the right rail. The Marietta
Daily Journal staff will select a winner from the nominations
each week and present the iPad to the winner. A photo of
the weekly winner with their students will appear in the
Marietta Daily Journal print and online editions.
The MDJ advises any CCSD staff who would like to participate,
that they write a brief statement, 100 words or less, explaining
why they think the person deserves to be one of The Marietta
Daily Journal and Superior Plumbing’s “Apple for your Teacher”

We will be accepting donations at Tapp to give to the childrens
State School Student Advisory Council
State School Superintendent Richard Woods is seeking middle and high school students to serve on his fall 2015 Student
Advisory Council. These students will meet with Superintendent Woods to discuss the impact of state policies
in the classroom, along with other issues related to education, and will serve as the Superintendent’s
ambassadors to their respective schools.

- Selected students will be contacted via email. All students can check gadoe.org, under News & Announcements, on September 11 to see if they have been selected.
Middle school students will meet September 28, November 9, and March 28. High school students will meet October 1, November 12, and March 31. The Student Advisory Council will also have two virtual meetings. Details on times and dates will be discussed at the first meeting.
OneHarvest Food Ministries
OneHarvest offers food boxes for $20 to $46 each month. Powder
Springs First United Methodist Church is the distribution point
for the food boxes. For September, please place your order by
September 9th for the pickup day of Saturday, September 19th
from 11am to 12pm. You may call the church on Wednesdays between
the hours of 5pm-7pm at 770-943-5130 or order online at
