STEM Informational Meetings
Please join Tritt
Administration on Wednesday, May 14 for an
informational meeting on the future of Tritt
academics! There will be two sessions held
to explain what exactly being STEM certified is
going to look like in the coming years and how
the change will impact the way your child learns
and excels. Questions will be answered and
there will be an opportunity to see STEM lessons
in action. The two meetings, covering the
same material, will be from 10-11:30am and
6-7:30pm. Please plan to attend and RSVP
to ensure a seat!

Arts in Ed Day
Tritt Elementary PTA is hosting its annual Arts
in Education Day for all Tritt students on
Friday, May 2nd, 2014. From
potters, to storytellers, to jugglers and more,
the students will be visiting with many
different artists throughout their school day.
We are in need of parent volunteers to serve as
ambassadors for the various artists. Lunch
will be provided for all volunteers. Let’s
make this a great day for the students at Tritt!

Substitute Job Fairs
The School District will host TWO Substitute Job
from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. For
applicants interested in substituting for the
North Area Schools (North of Powder Springs
including North Marietta, East Cobb, Kennesaw
and Acworth) the job fair will be held at
Piedmont Baptist Church located at 570
Piedmont Road, Marietta, 30066. For
applicants interested in substituting for the
South Area Schools (Includes Smyrna, Powder
Springs, Austell, and Mableton—South Marietta
area), the job fair will be held at Skyview
Elementary School located at 5805
Dunn Road, Mableton, 30126.
To attend applicants must complete the following

We need your help.
Due to a close call with a student’s safety
yesterday, Public Safety has recommended that we
close the gravel parking lot at the bus entrance
until 8:00 a.m. Starting Monday,
only buses & employee vehicles will be allowed
at the bus entrance. All other vehicles
should use the auto entrance. We will also
have an officer monitoring the bus entrance on
various mornings to help keep students safe.
The role of our crossing guard is to help
students & parents cross the road safely – not
to direct traffic. Also, please use the
crosswalks. Thank you in advance for your
help with this safety issue.

NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOLS FOR 2013

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan today recognized 286
schools as the 2013 cohort of National Blue
Ribbon Schools, based on their overall academic
excellence or their progress in improving
student academic achievement. Secretary Duncan
made this year’s announcement live via the
Department's USTREAM channel
viewed by recognized principals, teachers, and
students assembled across the country.
The Department will honor 236 public and 50
private schools at a recognition ceremony on
Nov. 18-19 in Washington, D.C. In its 31-year
history, the National Blue Ribbon Schools
Program has bestowed this coveted award on
nearly 7,500 of America’s schools.
“Excellence in education matters and we should
honor the schools that are leading the way to
prepare students for success in college and
careers,” said Secretary Duncan. “National Blue
Ribbon schools represent examples of educational
excellence, and their work reflects the belief
that every child in America deserves a
The National Blue Ribbon Schools award honors
public and private elementary, middle, and high
schools where students perform at very high
levels or where significant improvements are
being made in students’ levels of achievement.
The program recognizes schools in one of two
performance categories. The first category is
“Exemplary High Performing,” in which schools
are recognized among their state’s highest
performing schools, as measured by state
assessments or nationally-normed tests. The
second category is “Exemplary Improving,” in
which schools that have at least 40 percent of
their students from disadvantaged backgrounds
demonstrate the most progress in improving
student achievement levels as measured by state
assessments or nationally-normed tests.
To select National Blue Ribbon Schools, the
Department requested nominations from the top
education official in every state, the District
of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Department of
Defense Education Activity, and the Bureau of
Indian Education. The Council for American
Private Education (CAPE) nominates private
schools. A total of 420 schools nationwide may
be nominated, with allocations determined by the
numbers of K-12 students and schools in each
jurisdiction. The Secretary of Education invites
nominated schools to submit an application for
possible recognition as a National Blue Ribbon
