Vaughan Administration

Principal for 2019 - 2020 School Year

Ms. Jenny Douglas

Dear Vaughan Elementary Community,

I am honored and excited to have been selected as the principal of Vaughan Elementary. The reputation of Vaughan in regards to academic achievement and community involvement are outstanding. I am looking forward to learning all I can about our wonderful staff, parents and students. There will be several opportunities in the upcoming months that will allow us to get to know each other. In the meantime, I’d like to introduce myself.

I am a Georgia native and have lived most of my life in the metro Atlanta area. I received my bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Troy University, leadership certification from Kennesaw State and my specialist from Georgia State. But at the heart of it all, I’m an Auburn Tiger. War Eagle!

I taught at Shallowford Falls Elementary and East Side Elementary. One of my passions was teaching science and I can’t wait to see what is next for the Vaughan STEM journey. I served as an ALT (Area Lead Teacher) followed by several years of serving as an assistant principal at Bryant Elementary and Simpson Middle School. For the last seven years, I have had the honor to serve as the principal of Pickett’s Mill Elementary.

I am the very proud parent of two wonderful daughters who bring a great deal of joy to my life. We like to kayak, travel and play board games. I enjoy reading and the most recent books I’ve read are Culturize; Kids Deserve It and Start With Why. I am a fan of John Maxwell’s collection of books regarding leadership and am currently reading The Maxwell Daily Reader.

Serving as part of an elementary school team is an amazing opportunity to collaborate with students, staff and families in creating engaging academic experiences while addressing the social and emotional needs of our learners. Although I have nineteen years of experience in education, you all are the experts when it comes to Vaughan and I will need your help in learning about the culture, climate, rituals and traditions that make this such a wonderful school community. I hope that you will find I am a good listener and quick learner.

It is important to me that every member of the Vaughan community, staff, students and parents are excited to be here and feel welcomed any time you are in our school. I believe passion, enthusiasm and positivity create schools where collaboration is valued and all students can be successful. My number one goal this first year is to build relationships with every child and demonstrate to you that I genuinely care about children.
I value open, honest dialogue. So as we begin this journey together, please contact me with any questions, ideas or concerns. To start our conversation, please visit the following link and let me know just how awesome Vaughan is! https://padlet.com/jenny_douglas/vaughan_families

Thank you for the privilege of being part of your team.

Engage – Inspire – Achieve

Zach Mathis
Assistant Principal

Vaughan Community,

I’m so excited to be joining the Vaughan family for the 18-19 school year as assistant principal. I began my career in this area so I am well acquainted with the success and outstanding reputation that Vaughan has. The recent STEM certification only adds to that. I am honored to be a part of the school and community.

After graduating from Kennesaw State I started my teaching career at Ford Elementary in 2006. I taught 2nd and 4th grade there, while also coaching soccer at Kennesaw Mountain and North Cobb. A master’s degree in educational technology and specialist in education leadership helped me move to Brumby Elementary as a leadership intern, and I was at Sedalia Park as assistant principal for three years before arriving here.
